Are you wondering what a sign and symptom of cervical cancer is and how can you protect yourself against it? Unfortunately, most cases of cervical cancer there were no signs and symptoms until it was too late. The problem is that the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer come later after the cancer has already spread to other parts of the body, leaving the cancer and the patient untreatable. Thousands of women die of cervical cancer every year. Some women are fortunate enough to recognize a sign and symptom of cervical cancer but it is rare.
The one thing a woman can do to protect herself against cervical cancer is to have an annual pap smear done by her doctor. This test looks for any type of irregularities on the cervix and can detect early signs of cervical cancer. This method is the best way and if cervical cancer is found early, then a woman can be treated and this leaves her expected survival rate above 5 years.
If a woman is lucky enough to have a sign and symptom of cervical cancer it can include an abnormal discharge or frequent urinary tract infections that won’t go away. Another sign can be vaginal bleeding at odd times not during a period and excessive bleeding.
If it is determined that you have cervical cancer, then there are two types of cancers, noninvasive and invasive. Noninvasive cervical cancer can be simple to remove by a cone biopsy, laser surgery, loop electrosurgical excision procedure, and cryosurgery. Usually, the noninvasive is when the cancer hasn’t spread too far and exists somewhere it is easy to get. Usually, additional treatments are not needed and it is usually successful.
Invasive cancers need more intense treatment to kill the cancer like radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. A surgery can include a hysterectomy and remove a woman’s uterus, her ovaries, and the cervix. Removing the uterus makes it impossible to get pregnant in the future. Chemotherapy includes using drugs to try to kill the cancer and radiation involves using radiation to kill the cancer cells.
A sign and symptom of cervical cancer is not often recognized until it is too late. It is important to get a yearly pap smear so a doctor will recognize anything abnormal.
